Poker Predictions

Poker is a game that often pits experts against novices. This may seem
unfair, but the novice often plays poker the same way he would approach
a slot machine. Poker does present the element of luck that the expert
can sometimes have a difficult time reconciling.

Poker is a funny game. There is little dispute over the fact that
skillful play will, more often than not, win out over the amateur, but
the cards have a way of leveling the playing field just a bit.

The good player can usually recognize a novice right away. The beginner
shows little concern for the many details and strategies that go into a
game of poker. If they like their cards they play, if they don't they
fold. In a way, this is the way the veteran player approaches the game
as well.

The experienced player knows to account for his position at the table
along with the amount of money in the pot and the potential cards that
his opponent may be holding. The novice meanwhile examines the action
without looking for any signs that could tell him what the other players
have or how they intend to play.

The veteran player, armed with his intuition and knowledge of the other
players makes carefully crafted decisions to minimize losses and
maximize the wins when he catches a pot. The novice player concentrates
on the flop to see what his hand has become and pays no care to his own
reaction to what he sees.

The wise player will bet his hand a certain way because he knows the
potential his hand has to win and that only a fool would be able to beat
it. The novice player has no knowledge of pot odds or the likelihood
that his bets will bring him to the cards he needs.

The smart player raises the stakes to protect his hand, knowing that no
one at the table has a hand that can match the strength of his own. He
knows that a player would have to make a series of bad decisions in
order to reach a hand through blind luck that could beat his. The
novice makes bad decisions and chases hands where the odds of catching
them do not warrant staying in a pot to find out.

The final card drops and the expert poker player put his cards on the
table and watches as the novice takes all the money he'd put into the
pot.
